Beetles brought an early demise to my happily trellised cucumbers. Broccoli is supposed to help deter them. It didn’t, and I had lots of it growing next to the cukes.

Now all the broccoli and cucumber plants are gone, revealing dirt and a place to actually walk between the corn and tomatoes, which is surprisingly delightful.

Now the only place left for the little f**krs to hide is on the cornstalks. I squirted ‘em with organic stuff. One of the cornstalks was bent over but in the morning. Maybe it was the beetles. Or the humans. Or a really heavy bird.
